Procedure for Changing Tourist Visa (TR) to Non-Immigrant ED Visa in Thailand This letter from Oneness Work Co., Ltd. outlines the mandatory process and requirements for foreign nationals who entered Thailand on a Tourist Visa (TR Code or "Phor.60") and wish to change their visa status within Thailand to a Non-Immigrant ED Visa for non-formal studies (e.g., language or Muay Thai school). 1. Essential Eligibility Requirements (CRITICAL) The applicant must meet the following conditions: 1) Permitted Entry: Must have entered Thailand only on a Tourist Visa (TR), typically 60 days. 2) Non-Permitted Entry: Individuals who entered using a Visa Exemption (30-day/15-day stamp) or Visa on Arrival (VoA) are strictly ineligible to apply for the ED visa change in-country. 3) Remaining Validity: At the time of submission to the Immigration Bureau, the Tourist Visa must have no less than 25 days of remaining permission to stay. Recommendation: Start the process immediately upon arrival, aiming for at least 25-30 days remaining. 2. Service Process Flow (Oneness Work Co., Ltd.) Once eligibility is confirmed, the process is divided into three parts: Part 1: Preparation & Agreement 1) Initial Assessment: Verify the original Passport and the TR visa stamp upon client arrival. 2) Agreement & Payment: Sign the Service Agreement, remit the service fee (which includes the government processing fee) to Oneness Work Co., Ltd., and pay the tuition fee to the school. 3) Registration & Document Collation: Register the client at an MOE-certified school. The company collects the necessary school documents and provides the client with a list of required personal documents (Section 3). Part 2: Government Approval Process 1) MOE Submission (The Longest Step): The company submits the client’s and school’s documents to the Ministry of Education (MOE) or Provincial Education Office. The goal is to obtain the official "Letter of Certification of Student Status" from the MOE. a. Estimated Timeline: Approximately 2-4 weeks. 2) Immigration Submission: Once the original MOE approval letter is received, the company prepares Form TM.86 and supporting documents, then accompanies the client to the local Immigration Bureau for the official application submission. Part 3: Approval and Post-Visa Procedures 1) Review and Approval: The Immigration officer reviews the documentation. Upon approval, the client receives a Non-Immigrant ED visa stamp with an initial permission to stay of 90 days. 2) Post-Visa Obligations: o The 90-day visa is initial only. o The client must complete a 90-Day Report (TM.47) if staying continuously. o Before the initial 90-day permit expires, the client must apply for a Visa Extension at Immigration, which is typically granted in increments (e.g., 60-90 days) up to a maximum of one year, supported by ongoing school attendance records. 3. Required Documents from the Client (Student) The client must gather the following personal documents (originals and photocopies): 1) Passport: Original (6+ months validity), photocopies of the biodata page, valid TR visa, latest entry stamp, and TM.6 Departure Card. 2) Photographs: 10-12 color photos (4x6 cm or 2 inches, white background, taken within 6 months). 3) Proof of Residence: Mandatory TM.30 (Notification of Residence) reported by the property owner, plus a copy of the Lease Agreement, and the ID/Passport/Work Permit of the owner. 4) Immigration Forms: Form TM.86 (prepared by the company and signed by the client). 4. Summary of Cautions • Do Not Overstay: The entire process must be completed before the original TR visa expires. Any overstay disqualifies the applicant from this in-country process, requiring them to exit Thailand. • Timing is Critical: Due to the time required to obtain MOE approval, the client must contact Oneness Work Co., Ltd. immediately upon arrival to prevent their visa from expiring.
